“We’ve decided to host the DG’s 5K Challenge in September to avoid clashing with Cayman CARIFTA 2019”, says Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, "It’s only the third time that the Cayman Islands have been chosen to host the region’s largest track and field championships. It’s an honour to have been selected and we wanted nothing to detract from that."

The grand finale of the fifth annual 2018 DG’s 5K Challenge took place on Grand Cayman on Sunday, 29 April with more than 2,000 participants.

The record-breaking crowd, led by Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, was raising money for Meals on Wheels, Feed our Future and the Kiwanis Buy-a-Kid-Breakfast Programme. Participants blanketed the route in blue as they walked and ran the 5K, beginning and finishing at the Government Administration Building.

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Anwar Choudhury, Minister Roy McTaggart, Minister Joey Hew, and Minister Dwayne Seymour were among the high-profile people attending the event.

“We had an absolutely tremendous turn-out today,” said Mr. Manderson. “It was fantastic to see so many people from across the community come along and support these great charities. I thank each and every person who supported the event to help make it such a success.

After a competitive race, the overall fastest male runner was Victor Magalhaes in a time of 17:52.2. The overall fastest female runner was Tiffany Cole in a time of 19:35.9.
