Stingray Cayman’s swimmers take to the pool at the Lions Aquatic Center on Friday October 10th at 5:00pm for The Second Annual Big Swim, a sponsored swim-a-thon which will raise funds for the club’s upcoming swim season.

Stingray swimmers will be swimming hard and have just two hours to complete 100 laps (200 lengths) or 5000m. In that time they hope to raise $25,000 which, for a small swim club with swimmer ranging in age from 6 – 21, is a lofty goal. But if everyone who reads this finds a way to donate just $1 to a swimmer – or directly to the swim-a-thon fund - then the goal will be achieved.

Alternatively, individuals or companies who wish to make larger donations can contact stingraysec@gmail.com and arrangements will be made to pick up the cheque.

Swimming is one of the most intense sports, with training taking place year round. The committment and discipline that it takes to do well is incredible and it is “the norm” around the world for swimmers as young as 12 years old to train for 10 hours a week, plus dryland fitness. Stingray’s swimmers will be putting in the hours to raise funds for their club and they are hopeful that the community will once again support them.

To encourage 100% participation in this fund raising event - a number of great prizes have been organized – some for most money raised, some for first to finish, some for most number of pledges.

"Funds raised in the Swim-A-Thon will go towards funding a number of important things for the club in the coming year: a discretionary membership program offering free memberships for reasons of social or economic hardship; a second coach to enable the young graduates of the Government Learn to Swim Program to continue to swim to a higher level and to offset the costs of team travel to overseas meets," said Club President Amanda Roberts. " Please come out and join us and support these young athletes."

There will be music, food, fun, fast swimming and a huge amount of team spirit and camaraderie going on and friends, family and supporters are all encouraged to come out and encourage the athletes.

See you on deck with $1 in hand on October 10th.
