Event Description:

Please join us for the 5th Annual PAWS On Wheels fundraising cycling event!

The event begins at 7:00am from The Lighthouse Restaurant in Breakers. In-person registration will also be available from 6:15 - 6:45am on the day of the event.

This is not a race or a timed event, we just want to encourage everyone to enjoy their ride around the beautiful eastern districts in support of our animal welfare efforts!

This is a family-friendly event with 3 routes according to age and experience level:

Route 1: From The Lighthouse Restaurant to Frank Sound Road and back

This route is perfect for our younger cyclists and beginner riders. The length is approximately 4km.

Route 2: From The Lighthouse Restaurant to North Sound Road and back

This route is suited to older children and beginner to intermediate riders. The length is approximately 15km.

Route 3: From The Lighthouse Restaurant around the East End Loop

This route is suited to more experienced riders. The length is approximately 34km.

The event will be followed by a continental breakfast at The Lighthouse Restaurant and lots of prizes! We encourage animal-themed accessories... The more cat tails and mouse ears, the better!

Thank you and we hope to see you there!

Every year on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD).

The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.

Transfusion of blood and blood products helps save millions of lives every year. It can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with a higher quality of life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. It also has an essential, life-saving role in maternal and child care and during the emergency response to man-made and natural disasters.

A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system. Ensuring safe and sufficient blood supplies requires the development of a nationally coordinated blood transfusion service based on voluntary non-remunerated blood donations. However, in many countries, blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available, while also ensuring its quality and safety.

Every year, 19th June is World Sickle Cell Awareness Day.

Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is the most frequent genetic disease worldwide. Since 2008, World Sickle Cell Awareness Day has been held annually to help increase public knowledge and raise awareness of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and the struggles sufferers and their families go through.

The date was chosen to commemorate the day on which a resolution was officially adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations, recognising SCD as a public health concern.

SCD affects millions of people around the world, including both adults and children. It is a potentially fatal disease and, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is one of the main causes of premature death amongst children under the age of five in various African countries.

Please take a few minutes to increase your understanding of sickle cell disease, its signs and symptoms.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.

Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity.

Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga.

The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
