World Asthma Day is an annual event organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) to improve asthma awareness and care around the world. It takes place on the first Tuesday in May.

If you frequently experience shortness of breath or you hear a whistling or wheezy sound in your chest when you breathe, you may have asthma—a chronic condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tubes, the passageways that allow air to enter and leave the lungs.

World Hypertension Day (WHD) is observed on May 17th every year.

In addition as a result of the rapidly growing burden of disease associated with the global increase in hypertension, the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) and the World Hypertension League (WHL) have designated the entire month of May as May Measurement Month (MMM).

It allows blood to travel around the body to deliver fresh blood with oxygen and nutrients to the organs of the body High blood pressure, known medically as hypertension is important because it leads to an increased risk of serious cardiovascular disease, with complications such as heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure and blindness. Rising Stars, and friends, invites you to HARMONY Community Netball sessions throughout May and June. Read on for more details!

"Harmony Community Netball" is a Rising Stars Netball Club and Friends Initiative, endorsed by the Department of Sports.

Our objective is to introduce Netball to the communities to encourage district involvement in the sport in a positive, encouraging, social atmosphere while promoting healthy and active lifestyles for all involved.

During May and June we will be hosting Saturday evening events, from 4:30pm to 8:30pm within the districts of Cayman. The events will encourage everyone, all ages and abilities, to come out and try Netball in a friendly and encouraging atmoshpere. The sessions will have an element of coaching, led by local clubs, to teach and refresh skills, and then have some games so participants can apply their newly developed skills. At the end of the weeks within the districts, we host a rally where each district will enter a team and play against each other.

Ultimately our aim is to start a community league with these teams and encourage the players to continue to enjoy the benefits of Netball.

World MS Day is officially marked on 30th May every year, though events and campaigns take place throughout the month of May.

It brings the global MS community together to share stories, raise awareness and campaign with and for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common neurological disorders and causes of disability in young adults. There are 2.3 million people with MS worldwide. It is likely that hundreds of thousands more remain undiagnosed and many lives are affected indirectly, through caring for someone with MS.

Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 25 and 31, with around twice as many women diagnosed than men.

The cause of MS is not yet known and as yet there is no cure, though there are treatments available that can help some forms of MS and many things you can do to improve the symptoms.

Check the event timeline to see what is happening here on Cayman in connection with World MS Day.
