It's a New Year people and that means a fresh serving of Ultimate Frisbee is on the table! Put those New Year's resolutions in motion and come down to the Annex field in George Town (beside GT primary school) for some casual, coed pickup games on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45 to 7pm. Open to all fitness and ability levels, newcomers are welcome!!

Lunchtime swim session starting next week Wednesday!! If you are working towards mercury man or want to improve your open water stamina. Why not, jump in the water on your lunch break for 30-45mins, have a quick shower at the Westin and feel fantastic for the rest of the day.

This group is not just for Mercury man athletes but for all abilities wanting to improve their endurance in the open water. Ideal for business owners, entrepreneurs, and Mums that may have flexibility in their daytime schedule.

What you will receive- sets to improve your speed and stamina.
Technical help and support, accountability, swimming community and up and coming race updates.

What will it cost- 5 weeks swimming sessions for $50
.

Free at SMB Public Beach January 12, 6am very sharp. Finishes @ 7am.

There will be FREE refreshments and giveaways.

World Class Basketball Coach Visiting Cayman

Exciting times for basketball in Cayman continues to roll with an upcoming visit from Mike MacKay, a renowned world-class coach.

Come join us! Level up your coaching skills and pick up new tools to make every coaching day a great coaching day.

— WHAT: Basketball coaching clinic for coaches, teachers, parents, administrators and others involved in youth sport.

Mike MacKay has spent 30+ years developing coaches. His background includes a long history of working for Canada Basketball (national sport federation) overseeing the development of coaches and players in the national team pool. He’s currently the Manager of High Performance for Canada Basketball; and, prior to that the Manager of Coach Education. His mandate is to develop the gold medal profile basketball players for the women’s national team program; all with the ultimate goal of putting Canada on the podium at the 2020 Olympic Games.

A career teacher/educator, over the years, Mike has worked with athletes and coaches at all ages and stages of the performance/participation spectrum; and, has studied development and teaching models all over the world. He’s a thought leader in Long-Term Athlete Development and is a sought out presenter and clinician internationally. This past month, the NBA and England Basketball flew him to London to deliver a series of coach development clinics as a part of the 2019 NBA Global Games.

He’s covered topics such as:

  • Teaching Skills for Young Players
  • Organizing a Youth Practice
  • Using Small Sided Games to Build Your Offense

CARE (Cayman Animal Rescue Enthusiasts) proudly present the 10th Annual CARE 5k K9 Dog Jog / Fun Run. Sunday March 3rd, 2019 at 7am, starting and finishing on Safehaven Drive.


Come join us and help us raise funds for our community spay / neuter campaign and welfare assistance. 


Route: Start on Safehaven Drive. Run around the golf course, left onto Crighton Drive, turn around near the Holiday Inn, and take the same route home.


Distance: 5 km / 3.1 miles


Registration: CI$25 includes t-shirt for the first 150 registrants, raffle tickets for prize draw, finish line snacks and doggie biscuits.


PLEASE NOTE: Only 1 dog permitted per entrant this year.


Awards: Top 3 Male and Female Runners, and Fastest Male and Female with Dog. Entry into Prize Draw for all finishers.


Please register online if you can at www.caymanactive.com/registrations or alternatively in person on Saturday 2nd March at Camana Bay Observation Tower from 10am to 3pm, or arrive early on the day for late registration from 6 to 6:30am.

What/Where/When?

A social and family orientated paddleboard event. A joint parent and kids’ paddle (under 14s only), a team corporate cup and an individual 1.5 mile sprint (all paddle vessels encouraged in the 1.5 sprint).

Sunday 10 March, from 8.30am at Public Beach, SMB.

Events: Parent and Kids: Half mile paddle. Entry $25 per team. Registration from 8.30am. Race starts 9am. Board hire available. Please bring life vests for the little ones. Parental supervision required. Corporate Cup: Relay teams of 4. Half mile paddle per team member. One board per team (boards provided). Must carry the same designated coconut the entire race to successfully finish. Entry $350 per team. Race starts 10am. Limited to 16 teams. 1.5m Sprint: All paddle vessels encouraged. $25 entry. Registration from 10.30am. 1.5 mile. Paddle Starts 11am. Board hire available.

Prizes for winners of each race event. Spot prizes also awarded to lucky participants. Corporate teams must register in advance. Contact coconutcupky@gmail.com to register corporate teams (limited to 16 team entries).

Early registration encouraged, but individual entries are available on the day.

Limited board hire is available at reduced prices from Liquid Life, Cayman Standup Paddleboard Company, 7 Mile Paddle and Whitesand Water sports.

All proceeds to benefit Hart for Hearts, the pediatric arm of the Cayman Heart Fund, which raises public awareness and provides financial assistance to families in Cayman when their child is born with a congenital heart defect.

850 MILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE are now estimated to have kidney diseases from various causes. Chronic kidney diseases (CKD) cause at least 2.4 million deaths per year and are now the 6th fastest growing cause of death.
