The CaymanCARIFTA2019 will mark the 48th running of the CARIFTA Games. Mr. Austin Sealy inaugurated the event in 1972. The Games promoted relationships between the English-speaking countries of the Caribbean after the dissolution of the West Indies Federation. This marked the transition from Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The CARIFTA Games usually occur during the Easter weekend – April 20-22, 2019 – and can include over 150 events. The Games are contested in two age categories: under-17 and under-20 girls and boys. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) guidelines and rules govern the meet. Each country may enter two athletes per event; up to six athletes for relays (including 2 substitutes) and three athletes in the combined events.
It is one of the best Youth development meets in world athletics. College and University coaches and scouts from the United States use the meet for identifying up-and-coming athletes.

February is Heart Month and Friday February 1st 2019 is Cayman's Wear Red Day: an initiative to help raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and its effects.
Wear Red in your school, workplace and neighborhood and please raise funds for the Cayman Heart Fund.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one killer worldwide. More people die annually from CVD than from any other cause.
Heart Month is a fantastic way to remind everyone to focus on their hearts and encourage them to get their families, friends and communities involved. The most important thing you can do is to speak to your physician about your risks and know your numbers by checking for blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar levels, weight, and BMI.
For the past 12 years the Cayman Heart Fund has worked diligently in the community raising funds to increase awareness about the risks for heart disease and stroke.
Funds raised support fitness programs, educational sessions and health screening events.
To benefit Heart Month, all proceeds from Pilates classes at Balance Cayman on Saturday, February 23rd, will be donated to Cayman Heart Fund. Sue Merren, owner of Balance Cayman, promotes the importance of heart health and awareness around the prevention of heart disease.
Another proud supporter of Cayman Heart Fund is Sportisa. They enjoy partnering with like-minded organizations and individuals who share their goal of promoting the importance of staying healthy and keeping fit. Coordinator for the Cayman Heart Fund, Colleen Mellott said, the aim of our collaboration with Sportista is to engage with and inspire residents to take their heart health seriously.
Sportista has name brand sports footwear, apparel, and accessories - the gear to motivate runners, walkers, gym goers and anyone who wants to start and stay active. They take fun and social responsibility seriously and will work to build an on-going partnership with CHF which can deliver benefits to all persons living in the Cayman Islands.
Together there is still so much more we can do to save lives in the Cayman Islands.
