World Heart Day takes place on 29 September every year and is a chance for people across the globe to take part in the world's biggest intervention against cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Created by the World Heart Federation, World Heart Day informs people around the globe that CVD, including heart disease and stroke, is the world’s leading cause of death claiming 17.5 million lives each year, and highlights the actions that individuals can take to prevent and control CVD. It aims to drive action to educate people that by controlling risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided.

World Heart Day encourages us all to reduce our cardiovascular risk, and promotes a heart-healthy planet for those around us.

The DG’s 5K Challenge is an annual walk/run event led by Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson, bringing together civil servants, private sector employees and members of the general public in a fitness and fundraising challenge. This is part of the Deputy Governor’s vision to have a healthier, more active and more socially engaged civil service, while benefitting charitable organisations and initiatives in the Cayman Islands.

This year the Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge celebrates its 6th anniversary. With a focus on stepping up to the mantle to support the most vulnerable and reduce stigma, the beneficiaries this year will be: the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (CICC), the Special Needs Foundation Cayman (SNFC) and the Alex Panton Foundation.

 The 2019 dates are:

  • Sunday September 15th in Cayman Brac
  • Sunday September 29th in Grand Cayman - Route Map

Once you've registered at www.caymanactive.com/registrations you can collect your race packets as follows:

  • Cayman Brac pickup: Thursday Sept 12th and Friday Sept 13th from District Admin building from 9am - 4:30pm; Saturday Sept 14th from Cayman Brac Beach resort Conference Room from 12 noon - 7pm.
  • Grand Cayman pickup: Thursday Sept 26th and Friday Sept 27th from the Government Admin Building, main lobby, 9am - 6pm.
