Cayman Premier League Update

Roma United pushed Sunset FC to the bottom of the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Premier League table last Sunday with a 2-0 score line in a keenly contested game played at the TE McField Sports Complex in George Town.
Sunset’s dilemma started in the 39th minute when Roma’s striker Kenroy Graham slotted home a goal after catching Sunset’s defense line napping and the goal keeper came off his line. This half ended 1-0 in favor of Roma. Action picked up during the second half as both teams battled for supremacy attacking from both ends with good intensions resulting in several unlucky attempts coming from both teams.....

The tempo of the game was very physical, during one of the attacks on goal by the Roma team a Roma player was brought down in the penalty area by the goal keeper. A penalty was awarded to Roma; Dwayne Wright stepped up to the plate and placed the ball firmly at the back of the net bringing the score to 2-0. Despite the desperation of both teams for the last period of the game the score remained 2-0 until the sound of the final whistle.

Bodden Town drew 1-1 with Future SC at this same venue in a live televised game on Cayman 27 television. Mark Ebanks scored in the 22nd minute while Gerome Graham netted in the 48th minute for Bodden Town.

At the G. Haig Bodden Sports Centre Elite surprised league table leaders Scholars International 3-2. Donavan Godet found the back of the net in the 39th and 43rd minute bringing the score to 2-0 in the first interval. Defending champions Elite were back to their goal scoring ways as in the 62nd minute Hank Parchman scored. Seven minutes later, Oshane Facey pulled back one for Scholars international. The game became even more interesting when Christopher Peart made the score line 3-2 in the 80th minute. The game became intense as the top of the table team pushed forward to get the equalizer. This was not part of their destiny this Sunday as Referee Alfredo Whittaker blew the final whistle ending the game 3-2 in favor of Elite.

In West Bay George Town defeated Tigers 5-3. It was Tigers who took the lead in the 3rd minute when Jose Bush drew first blood. Tex Whitelock equalized in the 24th minute and at the stroke of half time Kirk Rowe netted to end the first half 2-1. Carlos Powery was on target for Tigers in the 48th minute bringing the game to 3-1. George Town would have none of it and went into overdrive. This response resulted in Gustavo Aluisio netting in the 51st minute followed by Whitelock completing his double in the 54th minute to make the score 3-3. A minute later George Town made a substitution putting on ace forward Fabian Malcolm. Malcolm wasted no time netting in the 79th and 87th minute to give his team a well deserved three points.

Scholars International is still ahead with thirty-six points hounded by George Town on twenty-nine, Bodden Town are in third place with twenty seven, Tigers on twenty-five, Elite on Twenty-two, Future and Roma has seventeen and Sunset sits at the bottom with sixteen points.
