Cayman FishingLocals had a good time on and near the water last weekend as the 2009 Cayman Islands International Tournament wrapped up on Tuesday.

The tournament, which launched last Tuesday at the Barcadere Marina in George Town and at Carib Sands in Cayman Brac, lasted a week.

Actual angling took place all day from Thursday through to Sunday all over the Cayman Islands.

The North Sound saw many boats armed with a platoon of anglers while Cayman Brac saw its fair share of fishermen.

At the end of each day crews would pull in to the weigh stations at the Barcadere Marina and Carib Sands to assess their takes for the day. Many fishing lovers went home with plenty of catch to show off to their friends and family.

From Yellowfin Tuna to Wahoo to the always popular Blue Marlin there was no shortage of colourful game to chase.

By the end of the weekend a select few came away with phenomenal catches. In the category for boats 26 feet and over Teddy Gadoury and the crew of the Prowla had the biggest Yellowfin Tuna with a catch of 74 pounds, two ounces.

Mark Tomkins and the crew of Down The Hatch nabbed the biggest Wahoo at 47 pounds, 10 ounces.

Megan Bodden, one of the many good female anglers on the local scene, grabbed the heaviest Dolphin along with the crew of Run Tings. Her catch weighed in at 44 pounds, five ounces.

Giovanni McLean of Bird Chaser caught a 44 pound 13 ounce Dolphin for boats under 26 feet while Cachas Stewart of ‘Jah Bless’ caught a 62 pound, six ounce Wahoo.
