Cayman Sports Person of the week, Shaune FraserCayman Sports Person of the week this week, bought to you courtesy of Burger King and the CaymanNetNews, is swimming sensation Shaune Fraser.

Shaune Fraser is one of the swimming sensations from Cayman Islands who recently beat a field of many athletes that included fellow Olympic swimmers to take victory in the 17th Annual Flowers Sea Swim.

The man who got into the pool when he was six weeks old recently won the 200m butterfly title during the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Meet with a personal best time of 1:31:70.

One Coach told his team that “winning is not everything but teamwork is", and surely this is true because Shaune has been successful largely because of the support and companionship that he has received from his brother Brett.

During last year’s Olympics, Shaune Fraser finished his 100-metre freestyle heat in 49.56 seconds, a personal best in that event, though not fast enough to qualify for the semi-finals.

He however has been competing for his college, the University of Florida. Coming to his stature has been a rise and rise climb. Five years ago during the Carifta games Shaune won gold in the 10 events that he swam in.

He then participated in the Beacon Realty 5 K International Sea Swim that was being held for its 24 year on 25 October 2003.

In the Island games in Guernsey Shaune Fraser won three gold medals and set new records in the games then. Two years later Shaune competed in the Fine World Swimming Championships in Canada where he smashed an eight-year-old record by 1.11 seconds.
