Breakers Speedway has been a hub of activity and excitement for nearly three years. With a plethora of drag meets and even a few dexterity races tossed in, Breakers has been on the frontline of Cayman’s motorsports scene. Many locals have enjoyed running down the 1/8 mile asphalt strip as (according to track records) over 700 racers have competed in Breakers’ history. However, as of this month, that will all come to a halt.
The first motorsports event of the month went off without a hitch. Last Saturday saw the first of two Time Attack races take place at Breakers Speedway. This month sees two of the Cayman Motorsports Association events after last month saw no races.
A local race meet saw many drivers come out and roast Breakers Speedway. Some 25 racers competed across five divisions on Sunday 1 February.
Any car can make a lot of power. Yet few inspire the sort of admiration and following seen with heavy American muscle cars. Classic rides like Mustangs, Camaros and Chargers from the 60s right up to the present day have long been a favourite on drag strips, especially in Cayman.
Dexterity racing may not have an official season in Cayman but one man is certainly its champion. Keith ‘Speedy’ Parker Tibbetts III, brought out his best for the last Time Attack race of the year held by the Cayman Islands Motorsports Association.
