Athletics District Meet ResultsA team of 6 athletes travelled to Havana, Cuba to represent the Cayman Islands in athletics at the CAC Senior Championships from July 3-5, 2009 at the Pan American Stadium in Havana City. 

 

Carlos Morgan won Silver for Cayman in the Men’s Long Jump when he placed 2nd with a leap of 7.87m. The Bahamas won the gold and bronze medal respectively.
 
In the 4x100m men on Saturday - the Cayman team placed 5th in the finals and set a new national record of 39.54secs. Trinidad & Tobago won the gold, Jamaica Silver and Bahamas bronze.
 
In the men’s Hammer Throw on Friday – Michael Letterlough placed 7th in the finals with a throw of 58.50. Cuba won the gold and silver medal and Guatemala won the bronze medal.
 
In the 100m Men on Friday - the Cayman duo of Kemar Hyman and Tyrell Cuffy failed to advance to the finals. They ran 10.42secs. and 10.53secs. respectively in the semis finals, unfortunately the times were not enough to qualify for the finals. Trinidad came first, Jamaica second and Barbados was third in the finals.
 
In the 200m finals, Tyrell Cuffy placed 5th with a time of 20.93. Jamaica were 1st and 3rd. Trinidad placed 2nd.
 
In the Triple Jump, Carl Morgan was our lone competitor. His brother Carlos did not start due to injury from a previous event. Carl placed 6th in the finals with a jump of 15.32m. Cuba placed 1st and 2nd. Trinidad was 3rd.


The Minister of Sports, Honourable Mark Scotland, together with the Director of Sports, Mr. Dalton Watler met with the team before the Championships.
The Team members were as follows:

Kemar Hyman               100m, 200m, 4x100m
David Hamil                  4x100m
Carl Morgan                  Long Jump, Triple Jump
Carlos Morgan              Long Jump, Triple Jump, 4x100m
Michael Letterlough       Hammer Throw

Dalton Watler – Asst. Coach
