Cayman Bocce BallOver here at CSA, we believe in an equal balance in life, so in keeping with that beat we have come up with the ultimate Cayman passtime, Bocce Ball.  This sport is not only the most un-athletic sporting event on the island, but you can also enjoy a beer on the beach while you play!

Cayman Bocce Ball supported by CayBrew

On Sunday, April 19th, Caybrew and CSA hosted the first ever Beach Bocce Ball tournament. The Caybrew was chilled and the seas calm; a perfect setting for a tense tournament.

Twelve players signed up for the first of its kind event; no one claiming to be a rookie. Before the games started there was already smack-talk by Jeff Danter, claiming to be a “Prairie League Bocce Ball Champ”; while Ray and Chris made it known that they play as often as possible.

The ladies of the day were Katja Perez, Anna Verrill, Kayla Bryson, Kate Cumming, & Colleen Stoetzel. Since there was an odd number of players, Ron Sanderson showed that he was a real man and joined the Ladies League.

The favoured to win was Katja Perez. She often practices the sport with her S.O., Chris Albrecht. She has a competitive spirit and had tickets to Zumanity in her sights. She easily won her three matches to take her the finals.

As for the remaining ladies, Anna and Colleen were both expecting to be the ultimate losers for the bunch. Colleen did not have a chance at all as she suffered straight losses and Anna won 1 of 3 games. But Anna’s win gave her the chance to play against the dominant Katja. Despite her stammering that she had no chance to win, Anna defeated Katja in a close match. We beg to question, do we have a bocce shark on our sand?

The men’s league had Rob Patrulea, Chris Albrecht, Nick, Jeff Danter, Kevin Higgo, and Ray Singh. All in all, the matches were close. Ray and Chris are known to be playing bocce ball as often as they can and together they are unbeatable. What a site to have the two compete against each other in the first round of the knock-outs! Albrecht went undefeated, taking down all five of the other fearsome competitors, including Ray Ray, chatty Robby and finally Kevin in the championship round.

Not that Chris had much of a choice but to win. With his lady defeated, Katja reminded him of the Zumanity tickets she wanted and stood close by to cheer him on.

Christoph and Kit-Kat Bocce-BallIn honour of our departing friends Christoph and Kit-Kat, the folks over at CSA have decided to introduce the Albrecht Cup. It is only fitting that his name should sit on the first name plate. The cup is currently under construction, but will be kept on display at Caybrew’s offices.

What a way to end a fun tourney on the beach but with a sunset and a small BBQ. Sound like a great time to waste away?

The next match will be at 2:00 p.m. on June 21st at Calico's.  Want more details? Register on-line! In the meantime, study up on the game rules, found below.
