Resveratrol is naturally occurring in dark grape skins and seeds and peanuts. Resveratrol is produced by plants to help fend off attack from molds and other pathogens.
It is no wonder that Resveratrol is showing up everywhere right now. This compound, naturally found in red wine, helps out with anti-aging. It can mimic the effects of a calorie-restricted diet, which has been shown to reduce the effects of aging on the body. I did a little research and found a study that confirms this from The University of Wisconsin. "Resveratrol can have the same effect as restricting calories by 20-30%, even if you don’t change a thing about your diet." It also mentioned it may help reduce the amount of fat in your body, and could, in the future, be used to combat obesity. (This is off course not an excuse to go abouts and eat everything in sight and continue to be sedentary).
Resveratrol helps regulate blood sugar levels, keeps high blood pressure at bay and in turn helps prevent heart disease. In addition to this, it can also help with breast cancer and prostate cancer. It also is a potent antibacterial agent which will help protect your body from food-born illness and helps keep fatty acids from building up in the liver.
In short, you should definitely give it a try. It can fight disease, and is a great anti-aging compound (and the research has been done to prove it!) New research is being done every day, and we are finding more and more things to like about resveratrol. We don't want to drink hundreds and hundreds of bottles of Pinot Noir to get the benefits (and it would be a horrible idea) so it is easier to get this from a supplement. Remember the doses vary from person to person. You can assume roughly 5mg per 2.2 kg of body weight, as per Dr. David Sinclair of Harvard Medical School.
Stay healthy!
