Do you feel sluggish, do you struggle with weight? Have you ever followed a low fat diet? If so, then you need to provide your body with essential fatty acids through diet and supplements.
Essential fatty acids are critical for human survival. They are required for good health and cannot be produced by the human body. Our bodies need good fats to help us burn unwanted body fat. That is why low fat diets are not an option when it comes to losing weight. Healthy fats will actually help you to lose that stubborn belly fat. The recommended daily fat intake is 20 to 45 per cent of caloric intake. We should be consuming 3 fish oil capsules every day with a meal. However, if you eat fish on a regular basis and other plant oils then you can reduce this dosage to 1 or 2 capsules a day. It is essential we include omega 3 in our diet through fish oil supplements and oily fishes, such as flaxseed oil, ground flaxseeds, salmon, trout, mackerel and cold water fish. Flaxseed oil tastes great when added to protein shakes or as a salad dressing. The benefits of consuming omega 3 fatty acids include; increased metabolism, improved mood and concentration, healthy skin and hair, reduced water retention and reduction of cardiovascular disease. In supplemental form, omega 3 fatty acids are available as soft gels (like a vitamin E capsule) or as bottled liquids. Flaxseed oil is a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid, EPA and DHA, these are essential for learning ability and mental development from conception to old age. Omega-3 oils have been called “the miracle food of the 21st century.” Research shows the right kind of fat can help prevent heart disease maintain optimum blood pressure and cholesterol levels and give almost immediate relief from joint pain, migraines, depression, auto-immune diseases and many other conditions. Omega-3 oils provide the perfect brain food. Omega 6 fatty acids are found in plant sources like nuts, corn oil, safflower oil, soybean oil and cottonseed oil. As a society we tend to eat too much omega 6 and not enough omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids help with inflammation in relation to arthritis and auto-immune diseases. Omega 6 is also known for its positive effect on woman suffering with menstrual disorders and related issues. Omega 9 fatty acids have a role to play in good health too. Found in animal fats, olive oil, almonds, avocados, cashews and macadamia nuts. Omega 9 plays a role in lowering cholesterol levels and promotes healthy inflammation responses. Omega 9 may also aid in the production of prostaglandins, which have many great health benefits. Omega-9 should be present in the body in healthy ratios as compared to omega-3 and omega-6. The short answer is: Every part of the body gradually deteriorates and falls apart. No cell tissue, gland or organ can function normally without them. The following are signs that you are deficient in your EFA’s; dry skin, constipation, hair loss, mood swings/depression, poor memory, deterioration of liver and kidneys, hormone imbalance, infertility, inflammation, bloating, excess belly fat and many more.
