The BMI measure is widely accepted and used, but does not account for factors such as frame size, muscularity, bone, and water weight. This makes BMI an unreliable measure for non-sedentary individuals including athletes, children, the elderly, the infirm, and those who don't have a medium frame. Muscle is denser than fat which results in some professional athletes being 'overweight' according to their BMI calculation unless the number at which they are considered 'overweight' is adjusted upward in a modified calculation.
BMI Calculation Formula: Metric: Weight (kg) / [Height (m)]2 English: ( Weight (lb) / [Height (in)]2 ) x 703
