Greenlight RE Internship

Cayman Sports Authority has teamed up with Greenlight RE to develop a unique internship program that offers on-the-job training to local high school students along with a scholarship opportunity.  This year, Khari King a junior at John Gray H.S., was awarded the first internship position.

CSA and Greenlight RE plans to accept applications for the second internship near November of 2009 for the Spring 2010 internship.  For students or parents interested in the program, below is a brief outline of the internship selection process.

Student Criteria: 

  • Year 11 student
  • Shall be a solid student.  
  • Interested in pursuing post-secondary education
  • Must have transportation to and from King’s Sports Centre for designated shiftsMust be able to balance 10-13 hours per week of work (outside of school time), while maintaining school work.  If school work begins to suffer, the internship will be terminated.

Essay:

The student shall complete four essay questions.  Students will be evaluated based on the quality of their answers.

Interview:

All students will also undergo a personal interview by CSA.

Internship Selection:

Two students will be selected for the internship, based equally on their written essay and interview.

Internship Criteria:

  • Work three evenings per week at King’s Sports Centre or as required.  Shifts will be scheduled outside of school hours. 
  • This is a hands-on internship. Students will be taught the “ropes” of the business by performing similar tasks as paid employees. 
  • Skills Learned...  Effective communication and marketing, Use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Website Management, Project management/time management, Budgeting and purchasing
  • Internship will be unpaid and will run from March 1st – June 30th
  • Each intern will be assigned to a current King’s Sports Centre program. In addition, each intern will participate in a joint effort on the new High School Beach Volleyball League.

 

Spring – 2010

  • Upon successfully completing the summer camp job, the student will be invited to work part-time for Cayman Sports Authority (CSA) from February – June of 2010.  This will be a paid position and the intern will be actively involved in operating all CSA activities.  This will comprise of 10-12 hours of work per week.
  • Students will be mentors for the incoming 2010 interns.  Each student will be assigned a new intern to train and advise.
  • Students that successfully complete their employment term with CSA will be eligible for the Greenlight RE Scholarship.

 

Greenlight RE Scholarship

Each intern who successfully completes all stages of the program will be eligible for a $2,000 scholarship from Greenlight RE to attend a post-secondary institution or  vocational training the first year after high school graduation.
