Cayman Carnival - Batabano

It's Carnival time again on Cayman with the Batabano Carnival with various events throughout the month of May. It's the perfect excuse to get out on to the streets and have fun whilst dancing away those calories!

The energy of Cayman Carnival Batabano is electrifying. Districts and corporate groups join together in costume to compete for prizes as the design and choreography become more elaborate each year. It is a time to celebrate local surroundings, to display creativity, to voice social issues and of course, to party and unite. Carnival is a true Caribbean tradition - a cultural kaleidoscope of music, dance and pageantry with roots mirroring the region's diverse history of African and religious influences. The colourful costumes reflect our vibrant landscapes and traditions, and the music is the very rhythm of life in the islands. From Trinidad and Tobago, to Jamaica and the Virgin Islands, carnival is the Caribbean's cultural expression of the arts.

For 2013, the Adults Street Parade is on Saturday May 4th starting at 3pm along West Bay road. Enjoy a kaleidoscope of music, dance and pageantry in this our 30th anniversary of carnival celebration. Stilt Walkers, Acrobats, and Limbo Dancers will lead a colorful parade of masqueraders, floats and costumed individuals. The parade starts from the Marquee Plaza, travels along West Bay Road and ends on Harbour Drive for a high-energy street party, where food and beverages will be on sale. The party continues on the streets with live music by DJ’s, local artists, and visiting headliners.

The Junior Street Parade is on Saturday April 27th. The children will parade around George Town in a mass of color, music and creativity before wowing the judges. After the parade the fun continues on the lawn of the Glass House with face painting, mask decorating, snow cones and family fun activities
